What We Do

Bowland Atelier has been providing art classes for all since 2013.  

Artists Cassandra Batterby and John Rotherham have been teaching art throughout their professional painting careers, from Bowland Atelier their idyllic, creative studio space nestled in the heart of the stunning Ribble Valley.

At Bowland Atelier we teach the art of drawing and painting from life, using traditional techniques. Our art classes are tailored to all abilities.  We teach by showing, using  practical demonstrations to give students as much 'hands on' experience as possible.  

We show you how we make mistakes, and more importantly how to correct your mistakes to create accurate, lifelike drawings and paintings.

Small class sizes (maximum 6 students) enables you to receive virtually 1:1 tuition in a professional artists studio.

The materials we use are charcoal for drawing and oil paints for painting.

Charcoal is a great way to make marks quickly, and is a perfect preparation for painting in oils.  All materials are provided.
